EDWARDS AIR FORCE BASE, Calif (AFIE) -- The Lockheed version of the Joint Strike Fighter, known as the X-35 flies over Edwards. The Department of Defense selected this prototype over the Boeing X-32B on Oct. 26. The JSF program's goal was to create for the Department of Defense a next generation multi-role fighter aircraft. The aircraft has been designed to meet the demands of the Air Force, Navy and Marine Corps as well as other countries world wide. It also meets the armed forces' demand for a formidable, versatile, survivable aircraft, while keeping within tight budget constraints. (U.S. Air Force Photo)
